Art Vocabulary and Craftsmanship

Describe the
technique applied – also describe dodging and burning; depth of field, etc.
It has a
short depth of field; the blossom is in focus while the trees behind it are
not. I probably should have burned in the branches because all the lines are
a little distracting.

Analyze:
specifically comment on any elements and principles used in your work.
The pink in
the blossom draws your eye because it is the only pink in the picture. I wish
the one branch in the background didn’t intersect with the blossoms. I also
wish the two blossoms didn’t intersect because it takes away from the depth
of the picture. The texture from the new leaves contrasts with the smooth
petals of the blossom.
The repeating
shapes of the blossoms add harmony, but the leaves and branches add variety.

Interpret:
What is the photographer’s intent?
Does it convey an idea or message? Is there a mood?
It shows the
fresh start that comes with Spring. The new blossom with the budding leaves symbolize
new life and the ability to start over in the Spring.

Critique

Judge:
evaluate the success of this piece.
I feel like
there is too much of the branches in the picture, it’s fairly distracting. They
take away from the focus on the blossoms. The color and light on the blossoms
are good.
